Huru & A New Shaded Gathering Area
Between September 25 and October 6, 2023, we will begin installing two new features at the River Park: A shaded, group picnic area near the old fence and an exciting new work of art, Huru by Mark di Suvero.
Phase 1 of the Gathering Area’s construction, which includes preparing the site itself, will be complete in early October. Seating and the shade cover will be completed later this year (weather permitting). This project is funded in part by the three Rotary Clubs of Petaluma.
Huru will be fully installed by October 6, 2023. We hope you will join us in celebration on Saturday, October 7!
More about Huru
We have an historic opportunity to install and showcase Huru, a monumental work by internationally acclaimed sculptor, Mark di Suvero, at Petaluma River Park as our inaugural artwork. Once installed, Huru will:
Be a striking beacon for the city and the park, visible from Highway 101, D Street, and other vantage points in both the East and West sides of Petaluma.
Set a world class tone for the park and will draw visitors from around the Bay Area and beyond.
Reflect in design, materials (weathered steel), and scale, our wild urban park in the heart of a city with an agricultural and industrial history.
Attract raptors as a perch from which they scan for prey, as it has in the past.
